1957 Honor: Gillespie and the Guards, illustrated by James Daugherty and written by Benjamin Elkin. First published by Viking in 1956
- Collecting? I will be honest, I have not found enough copies of this book to give any definitive attributes.
- Below is one copy that I have, which appears to be an early edition, maybe not a first. As you can see, it has beige or light tan boards with red lettering and a picture of a royal guard standing over a child.
- If mine is a first edition, the copyright page states "First published by The Viking Press in August 1956."
- Again, this book is VERY hard to find. I have not seen it in my library system, and even big used book sites like biblio and AbeBooks only have a handful of copies.
- Looking for Daugherty?
- He carries illustrator credits on 104 books, 15 of which he also wrote; a full bibliography is available at the Friends of James Daugherty Foundation.
- You can see some of his major works on my artists' profile as well.
