Gillespie and the Guards, 1957 Honor: Caldecott and Book Collector Notes

1957 Honor: Gillespie and the Guards, illustrated by James Daugherty and written by Benjamin Elkin. First published by Viking in 1956

  • Collecting? I will be honest, I have not found enough copies of this book to give any definitive attributes.
    • Below is one copy that I have, which appears to be an early edition, maybe not a first. As you can see, it has beige or light tan boards with red lettering and a picture of a royal guard standing over a child.beige or light tan boards with red lettering and a picture of a royal guard standing over a child
    • If mine is a first edition, the copyright page states "First published by The Viking Press in August 1956."
    • Again, this book is VERY hard to find. I have not seen it in my library system, and even big used book sites like biblio and AbeBooks only have a handful of copies.
